Celebrating Italian Creativity in Art – 28 March 2025

Join this special evening to celebrate the innovative and timeless creativity of Italian filmmaking, music, art and history. After each of the three screenings, we’ll run Q&A sessions with the respective actors, producers, and film experts: a great opportunity to connect directly with the creative minds behind the films. This event is organized by Italian Professionals Netherlands (IPN).

– 19:10: PREMIÈRE! “Probation Day” short movie (Italy / NL, 2025), followed by Q&A
Shot in The Hague and produced by an Italian/Dutch cast and crew, this short movie starts with a mystery. Who are the grumpy man and the young novice? Why are they spying on innocent people? We’ll know it all in the right place at the right time. But remember: “they must be together, otherwise you cannot shoot”.
– 19:45: Elvira Notari’s silent documentaries (1923) with live music. Introduction by Vera de Lange (verascoop)
Elvira Coda Notari (1875 – 1946) is credited as the first female film director in Italy (and the second in Europe). She made over 60 feature films and about 100 shorts and documentaries, quite often writing the subjects and screenplays herself. She was also a prolific entrepreneur, producing documentaries on demand for the Italian community in New York City in the 1920s, unfortunately many of them are now lost. We will watch two (silent) documentaries with live music to accompany the screening. The film historian Vera de Lange will introduce the films. Music from: Salvatore D’addio, Daniele Cavallo. World premiere! An Italian music composer (Vito F. Mainolfi), a band sparse around the world (Pentesilea Road), a song (“The Geometry of Nothing”) that has a meaning. Shot in The Hague, Monster beach, Voorburg, Campania (Italy) and more places around the world, this music video is produced by Filmshade Productions NL and Italian Professionals Netherlands / IPN Cultura.
